The beautiful city of Edinburgh is home to many of Scotland’s most famous attractions and unforgettable views. With everything from history and heritage to animals and art, there is so much to see on a trip to the popular tourist city. To help you plan the perfect trip, we’re sharing our top things to see on a visit to Edinburgh;
Arthur’s Seat is the towering remnants of the extinct volcano that once stood tall in Edinburgh. Its name comes from the legendary tales of King Arthur, and the location offers spectacular views across all of Edinburgh and beyond. It is the highest point in Holyrood Park and located just outside of the city centre. The walk-up Arthur’s Seat isn’t for the fainthearted, but the views from the peak are worth the effort.
Home to over 1,000 animals, there is plenty to see at Edinburgh Zoo. The most popular sight here is the Giant Pandas, which are a rare find and a set viewing slot must be pre-booked before visiting. Other animals that can be found here include lions, tigers, wallabies, chimps, red pandas and monkeys.
Edinburgh is famed for its whisky, and visitors can explore all things Scotch whisky at the experience on the Royal Mile. There are tours, tasting sessions, masterclasses and more, so you can discover everything there is to know about Scotch whisky. You can also visit to taste some local food and whisky in the restaurant, which has plenty of options for non-whisky lovers too.
One of the easiest ways to see everything Edinburgh has to offer is with one of the many attraction passes that are available. The Edinburgh Pass provides entry to 25 of the city’s most exciting locations, as well as free public transport. The Historic Scotland Explorer Pass offers savings on over 70 Scottish historic properties, including Edinburgh Castle.
